Twenty-four Hours in a Day

By Kris Powers | October 1st 2013

Clock

In this time of crazy schedules and always trying to cram more things into a busy day, I keep coming back to the saying, “there are only 24 hours in a day”.   We all have the same 24 hours, but for many people that just does not seem like enough time to get everything that needs to be done, well…… done.

When we look at all of the things vying for our attention; family, work, school, home, etc. the daily “needs” can seem overwhelming.  When you feel overwhelmed, it might be time to take a step back and evaluate where you are.

College graduates in caps and gowns

I’ve read a great number of articles lately on whether or not students and employees today need to have a college degree.

What do you think?  Should everyone get a college degree?  Cast your vote using the link below.

Last month, Ed4Career posed the question, “Have you ever taken an online course for your own Professional Development?”

Expecting to receive more of the standard “yes/no” type of answers, I was pleasantly surprised by the number of people who took the time to share their personal experiences with online learning.

Of those who responded, a whopping 92% had taken an online course for their own professional development, many having taken more than one and a few selecting it as their learning method of choice for professional development needs.  Most respondents, if not all, indicated that it was an excellent way to keep up to date on skills and trends.

At Ed4Career we hope to set a standard for sustainable education practices. In addition to maintaining environmentally responsible business practices, we promote balanced and healthy living for our staff.

We partner with others who care

By partnering with companies dedicated to maintaining carbon neutral operations, we help reduce our impact on the environment as well as preserve natural resources.

For example, our server company Pair.com has measured, reduced, and offset its company-wide carbon footprint. As of August 1, 2007, all of Pair Networks' operations, including datacenters, support operations, administrative facilities, and employee commutes & business travel are 100% Carbon Neutral.

Occupations with the Largest Job Growth 2010-2020

Occupations with the largest job growth

According to an article published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics in the January 2012 Monthly Labor Review entitled “Occupational Employment Projections to 2020”; the BLS projects overall employment to increase about 14 percent during the 2010–2020 decade.   Occupations that typically need postsecondary education for entry are projected to grow faster than average, but occupations that typically need a high school diploma or less will continue to represent more than half of all jobs.

Happy Labor Day!

Labor Day means many things to many different people.  For some of us, it’s a day off of work, a time to relax with family and friends.  The holiday might be celebrated as one of the last days to take a trip, have an outdoor picnic, or hold neighborhood barbeques and firework displays.  For others, Labor Day represents the end of the summer and the start of back-to-school.  And for a few hold-outs, it’s the last time to wear white shoes until next season!

According to The United States Department of Labor, Labor Day is a holiday dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It is an annual national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.

Excellent Customer Service

By Kris Powers | August 27th 2013

Customer Service

We’ve all experienced it one time or another. Whether on the phone or in person – we’ve all most surely encountered customer service agents who are not effective at their jobs.  It can be something as simple as their not understanding their own product well enough to walk or talk you through a problem.  Or it could be that they are completely ineffective at diffusing a situation and offering an acceptable solution.  Whether offering a product or service, companies and industries that provide excellent customer service have a clear competitive advantage over those who do not.

As expected, there are many factors students take into consideration when selecting an online course.  Students weigh the potential rewards against how much work is involved, how expensive the course is as well as how much time it will take to complete.

The history of graduate success and outcomes were important as well as course content, design, methodology, and the offering of up to date courses.  A preview of course content and example of how the material is presented would allow some students to weigh the course content and cost together to ensure it would lend value to the learner.  Flexibility of online learning remains important.  A few respondents mentioned that the reputation of the provider and the company’s professional respect in the industry lent necessary credibility to the program.

Dr. Tricia Seymour, Cofounder and COO of Ed4Career, was recently published in Career College Central’s July 2013 Magazine.  In the article entitled “Can Online Learning be as Effective as Classroom Learning?” Dr. Seymour highlights the results of a recent poll conducted by Ed4Career among educators and professionals and explores the ongoing debate taking place in academic circles.
